En 1919 se publicó por primera vez y provocó escándalo e inicidentes. Varias profesoras que utilizaron el libro fueron despedidas y el obispo de Lérida condenó públicamente la obra. Las editoras han elegido publicar la edición de 1975 por lo que la introducción de Maria Aurèlia Capmany aporta al texto en el año que finaliza la dictadura franquista.
