En cambio, la enfermedad y la muerte de Tito Vilanova marcaron trágicamente la temporada 2013-2014. Apenas iniciada pretemporada, Vilanova tuvo que abandonar la plaza de entrenador y el Club fichó al Tata Martino, que en su presentación prometió el retorno al estilo de juego atractivo y ganador de los últimos años. Aunque este impulso se quedó por el camino y las dificultades que rodeaban al Club se acumularon, los jugadores no rebajaron la competitividad y lucharon por los títulos hasta los instantes decisivos.

Although this effort came to nothing, with increasing difficulties surrounding the Club, the players continued to be competitive and fought for trophies until the decisive moments.
